How to Transfer Your Website Files From One Host to Another

We have been receiving lot of mails from potential client on the possibility of transfering their website files to us without losing any files. This is a task we do for free for any clients that is willing to host with us.

Note: Before we go further — there’s no way to move your hosting without some downtime. This process minimizes the time your site is down, but your site might be inaccessible for up to 48 hours.


The first step is to evaluate your site. Figure out where in your previous host, the folders, your website files are stored. You will also want to find out if you are using any databases, and if so, how you can obtain a backup of them. It is best to contact your current hosting company to obtain this information as it does vary from web host to web host.

Note: We do backup website files (including database) for our client that request for website backup especially those that little or no knowledge about files handling.


Next, download your website files from your previous host to your desktop. We recommend that you use FTP (Filezilla) to perform this step. For more help with using FTP, please see the following link:

Export your Website Databases

Next step is to obtain a backup of your databases if your website. Instructions for doing this vary from host to host, so you’ll want to contact your previous host for assistance with this.

Now it is time to upload your website files using FTP into your public_html directory on your HostMeNg Hosting account.

Transfer/Point your Domain

You will need to switch the DNS on your domain name to HostMeNg name servers, which are:

After you have done this, you can request us to transfer the domain name registration to us as we offer a free transfer and renewal for the life of the hosting account with us and this is optional.
